Expanded Like Functionality

August 28th, 2009

Hey Metalheads,

here’s some more news! We’ve added the ability to click on Likes in Metalgasms to expand out and see who else likes and dislikes the Metalgasm!  You can also now see in Users’ profiles how many likes and dislikes they have given!  You can even click on those to see specifically which Metalgasms they liked and disliked!  This will be great for finding people who love the same stuff you do, and then you can start checking out what else they like that you may also find Metalgasmic!

Keep on rocking and look out for more new features to come!

Like functionality hitting the stage!

August 24th, 2009

Hey Everyone,

it’s been awhile I know, I had someone else doing some work, but it fell through and then I hit up vacation, then had to get a new setup, but now I’m back on the job!

If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself!

So here it is, you should now be able to use the Like functionality on any Metalgasm you find as long as you are signed in!  Just find a Metalgasm and click the horns to give your like, or you can hit the finger to show your dislike for a metalgasm, and of course you can click the cancel button to remove your vote altogether!

I hope this helps everyone get more active on the site and share what metalgasms they really like, and if you don’t feel like resubmitting a great metalgasm that is already there and you feel the same way, throw them the horns!  Soon enough we are going to be debuting the “Truegasm” scoring algorithm to really push to the top what deserves to be there, and we’ll definitely be incorporating the likes, so feel free to go nuts!

Also coming is some more expanded functionality around the like, so you can view who else is enjoying the same stuff you do, and whose hatin’ on your stuff!  See someone who continues to like the same stuff you do? View their metalgasms and profile to find out if you share similar tastes and maybe you’ll find some new bands to listen to!  I’m going to work on an internal mailing system so we can start connecting with new metalheads and expand the #Metal love!

Tell your friends and keep blasting out the Metalgasms!

ROCK!

We Are Still Growing!

June 29th, 2009

It’s been awhile since my last post, but just wanted to give you and update to let you know I’m still around!

We’ve been growing in number and are up to 48 users now! Soon we’ll hit the big 50!

We’ve almost hit 750 metalgasms as well!

I’m still working on getting a friend to do some programming, but we’ve been hitting a few road blocks.  I did a few updates the other day, but generally haven’t had much time to make many improvements!  This should change this week as I have a few days off and plan to buckle down and get some new functionality out there!

I’ve been meeting a lot of new cool Metal people on Twitter and it’s great! Such a wonderful community of #Metal heads!

Let’s keep rocking those Metalgasms and keep it METAL!

If you are on twitter, feel free to do a search on #Metalgasm to see all the Metalgasms people have been posting to twiter!

Fuck You Eventful and Ticketmaster, Get Your SHIT Together!

June 11th, 2009

I wasted 20 minutes this morning and almost $50 as well trying to buy misleading/fake tickets to Nevermore!

It all started when I got an email from Eventful, which noted that Nevermore was playing near me! I was like Holy Shit! How did I not hear about this?! So I click the link in my email as seen below:

Photobucket

Which takes me to the Eventful webpage for Nevermore:
(sorry pics don’t fit well in this blog layout, but you can click for full size)

Photobucket

And their description below this was what you’d expect:

Photobucket

So I’m excited and click to go buy from Ticketmaster, and here is what I see:

Photobucket

Hmm, this doesn’t seem right, what the hell is this L’Oreal crap, and why are they playing at the Elgin Theater, a play house, which I’ve never seen a Metal band play at? Maybe somehow they are in this arts festival?

So I decide to double check Ticketmaster, looking up Nevermore:Photobucket

Ok that doesn’t make much sense, but maybe Ticketmaster is just retarded as usual and doesn’t recognize them because they aren’t playing alone and as part of a (arts) festival??

Lets click on Nevermore just to make sure:

Photobucket

Ok, that picture is fucked up, but maybe they are that weird, no wait, their pics on Eventful were fucking badass Metal, and I recognize that guy with the beard…but the description is definitely talking about Nevermore.

Let’s check out what this festival site has:

Photobucket

So far this still isn’t looking right…

Let’s see Nevermore under events:

Photobucket

Ok, WTF is this?!! This is definitely not the band Nevermore, I know they are into some dark shit and maybe Poe might make sense, but I’m pretty sure this is a theater production, and looking in the details that is what it appears to be…BUT you will notice that this is the SAME FUCKING PICTURE that Ticketmaster used for the Band!!

What the fuck is going on here?

Obviously these sites are using autopopulate algorithms to find what is going on and pulling info from Wikipedia or something, but this is just fucked, wrong pictures, wrong cross overs, and kind of misleading, Especially from Eventful which had the right picture and information pertaining to the band Nevermore!

I’m glad that I got my sleep this morning and I’m also glad I didn’t find this deal while I was drinking or else I might have bought a ticket without looking a little deeper.  Maybe the play would be cool, but I’d be pissed if I drove 1.5 hours decked out in Metal show gear to a frickin’ arts festival play!

Also didn’t make much sense that Nevermore would play 3 days in a row including an afternoon show as well on Saturday! I admin I wasted a bit more time that I should have looking at what seats I could get before really realizing something was off, but when you find out that a show you really want to see is on tonight and tomorrow, you start to get excited, panic, and go MUST LOOK FOR GOOD TICKETS!

Anyways,

What The FUCK Eventuful and Ticketmaster?! You guys fucking suck and almost confused me into buying tickets for a play!

Rob Zombie Tells It Like It Is!!! \m/

June 10th, 2009

Thank you Rob Zombie, I’m glad someone said it, I fucking Hate American Idol and I think the whole concept is fucking retarded.  That’s not talent, it’s a fucking machine meant to make money off of idiots.  That’s not how real Musicians and bands get started, it’s how pop shit gets started.  Maybe he can sing, but his success will come from illegitimate gains, and I can’t stand to see how many people go crazy for that show.  Add douchebags who control entry into being a “music star” as if they are gods, and millions of idiots texting in and drooling over looks and you’ve got yourself a couple hundred million dollars and a Cash Cow.

The article is here

Here are some great truthful quotes:

“I’m not a big fan of the thought that you can become a star by winning a contest,” he said. “I’m sort of old-fashioned?I think people need to get out there and they need to work and they need to do their music because they love it.”

“If they become successful, then great, and if they are not, whatever?that’s the way the chips may fall. I just get disgusted watching people crying that it should have been them, that they’re a star, that they’re special,” he added. “You know what? F–k you!”

Things are movin’ & tweetin’ along!

June 9th, 2009

I figured I hadn’t posted in awhile so I’d give everyone an update.  I’ve been working on version 1.3 of Metalgasm.com, and if you’ve logged in recently you might notice that there is now a News page when you login.  This has a complete list (more or less) of all the things that are upcoming for 1.3, so I can finally move onto more funstuff in 1.4!

One major accomplishment I’m happy with is the (rough) integration of Twitter into Metalgasm.com.  You can now click the tweet this box and share your metalgasm on Twitter as you submit it! This will send you to a twitter page asking if you will allow it to post on your behalf, and if you click allow, you’ll soon see a Metalgasm by you on your twitter stream as well as in the #metal stream and #metalgasm stream.  I still need to figure out how to make it so you don’t have to click allow every single time, but that will be in 1.4 or later.

I guess the next thing I could create is being able to post to facebook at the same time you submit a Metalgasm as well! Not sure how people will feel about that, but it will be optional.  I haven’t started doing any FB dev yet, so I’m not sure how easy or hard it will be.  I’m also going to look into that Facebook Connect thing and see what it’s about.

I also want to extend a warm welcome to our newest members and I hope you enjoy your stay, submit some Metalgasms, and return again! Hey maybe if you like it, you can share it with a friend too!

Rock on! \m/

Metal Monday & Metalgasm goes Mobile!

June 1st, 2009

I’m pumped again that we are getting so much more content into Metalgasm.com and that people are spreading the #metal word far and wide!  We are growing at a pretty good rate and I’ve been busy making some improvements, changes, and additions here and there.

One of the new things you might notice is that you can now see whether a Metalgasm has been posted via the web or mobile.  That also means that we’ve got a mobile site up now!!

You can check out our mobile site at any of these addresses:

Please let me know what you think and if you find issues with it, or want some changes!  I’m working on building it out more so you can do everything you can normally do on the site.  I’ve heard from at least one user so far that you would like a focus on browsing, so I can set that up.  I originally put the submit metalgasm widget on the homepage so that you can quickly whip in a metalgasm as it comes to you, but I imagine if you are taking the time to type it out, you can hit one extra click to start submitting.  Let me know what you think of this idea.

Thanks to everyone who has been promoting my site, and a special thanks to Thrash Hits for the promotion this morning on Metal Monday!

Big Thanks to my friend Scott at HookInMouth.net!

May 31st, 2009

Thanks Scott for the wonderful blog post! It can be read here!

I think Scott did a great job of explaining what Metalgasm.com is all about, and what a Metalgasm is, how it makes us feel, how it excites us to no end!

I encourage you to check out Scott’s blog here, he’s one solid Metalhead!

Rock on!
